Just another Edublogs.org weblog

Week of Sept. 14

Today the classes were assigned their first week of Wordly Wise.  They must complete the unit one packet sections 1-A, B, C, D for Friday.  The other half of the assignment is to write a one-page essay using ten of the week’s words.

We began our unit on multiple intelligences.  We will look at how each of the students learns best and will custom fit our teaching toward this information.  Students filled out a survey and graphed the results.  We will all be making a poster to represent our MI later this week.

Keep reading your S.S.R. books.  We are half way through the month and the book project will be assigned in about two weeks.

Bowling Postponed

Our bowling excursion has been postponed until next Friday (9/18). Hopefully we will have a bright, sunny day for our walk to the lanes!

Green passports should be signed by a parent or guardian this weekend and returned to homeroom teachers on Monday.

Please come prepared on Monday with all necessary supplies to start the week: pens, pencils, assignment book, SSR book, etc.

Have a relaxing weekend!

Bowling tomorrow!

Tonight is open house. The sixth-grade team will be presenting in the auditorium from 7-8pm.

All OSMS students are asked to bring in an unopened box of band-aids to be donated to the United Way.

Reminder: Bowling tomorrow!! Any students who have not turned in a permission slip will not be allowed to go. We are going rain or shine so be sure to bring appropriate clothing. An extra pair of socks is recommended!!

Week of September 8, 2009

At this point, all Literature books should be covered, students should have chosen an SSR book that they carry with them throughout the day, last week’s yellow passport should have been seen and signed by a parent or guardian.

Reminder – Bowling $$ and permission slip due by Thursday.

DISCLAIMER

**Disclaimer for School Weblogs**

These weblogs will be used to keep lines of communication open between parents, students, and teachers. Classroom information will be provided on assignments, long-term projects, and various class announcements. That being said, these are some things that parents and students need to read and understand fully:

Weblogs ARE NOT intended to replace assignment notebooks. These are designed to support them.

Teachers will use these weblogs AS THEY SEE FIT. Not all teachers will post assignments every day. Some teachers might simply choose to include upcoming tests and long-term assignments, or may not use them at all.

DO NOT RELY on these postings. As you know, the teaching day can get busy and assignments might not be accurate on certain days. This is why the assignment notebook should be the primary tool for keeping track of assignments.

A score of 80% is required to pass the exam and to be eligible for a Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation (good for the operation of any recreational vessel including a personal watercraft – PWC). If students wish to obtain a permanent boating certificate, they must submit a completed application, $25.00 fee and proof that they have passed this course. This must be done in person at the D.E.P in Old Lyme. We will be providing students with additional information on this in the days to come.

The May book project was assigned on Tuesday and is due next Thursday, June 4th. Students may not choose a project that they have done in the past.

REACH:Making Smart Choices

REACH (Responsible Educated Adolescents Can Help): Making Smart Choices

Today, Youth and Family Services presented an assembly and classroom workshops for 6th and 7th graders that were designed to raise awareness about drugs and alcohol. Student leaders from the high school joined Jane Moen, Youth Coordinator from YFS, to bring a strong prevention message to our students. A handout will be distributed to each student to bring home to parents. Please take time to ask for this and discuss the content of today’s program with your children.
