Week of 5/26/09

No Wordly Wise homework this week.

Today we completed the Connecticut Course On Responsible Boating. We will have a review session on Thursday, and students will be given the exam on Friday. A score of 80% is required to pass the exam and to be eligible for a Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation (good for the operation of any recreational vessel including a personal watercraft – PWC). If students wish to obtain a permanent boating certificate, they must submit a completed application, $25.00 fee and proof that they have passed this course. This must be done in person at the D.E.P in Old Lyme. We will be providing students with additional information on this in the days to come.

The May book project was assigned on Tuesday and is due next Thursday, June 4th. Students may not choose a project that they have done in the past.

REACH:Making Smart Choices

REACH (Responsible Educated Adolescents Can Help): Making Smart Choices

Today, Youth and Family Services presented an assembly and classroom workshops for 6th and 7th graders that were designed to raise awareness about drugs and alcohol. Student leaders from the high school joined Jane Moen, Youth Coordinator from YFS, to bring a strong prevention message to our students. A handout will be distributed to each student to bring home to parents. Please take time to ask for this and discuss the content of today’s program with your children.
