Veteran’s Day Essay Contest

Mr. Rafferty and Mrs. Ryan are holding a Veteran’s Day essay contest for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The contest is voluntary. Winners will speak on the Town Green on Veteran’s Day at 11:00. The theme of the essay is, “Why should we as students honor Veterans on Veteran’s Day and every day?”. Essays are due on Wednesday, November 5th.

Book projects were assigned on Wednesday. They are due on Thursday, November 6th.

Spelling Unit 9  HW – Due 10/31 (Boo!)

D.O.L. – M,T,W (Due T,W,TH) Don’t forget parts of speech!

Students took the CARS (Comprehensive Assessment of Reading Strategies) today in class. This is a new assessment that is being given to all grade levels. It will be administered 3 times a year and will be used to monitor students’ progress in the area of reading comprehension in accordance with the strands of the CMT (Connecticut Mastery Test).

Book Projects will be assigned on Wednesday.

D.O.L. – M, T, W (Due T,W & TH) – Don’t forget parts of speech!!!

Book projects will be assigned next week on 10/29 – you should be reading your October book for at least 15 minutes a night.

We will be working on review and instruction of expository writing this week. We will also be starting the first of our Great Books – Game of Catch.

We have finished Tuck Everlasting and students will have tests and blue books returned as soon as all students in the 6th grade have taken all of the assessments.

** REMINDER – School pictures will be taken on Wednesday

Week of Oct. 14

Tuck Assessment on Chaps. 20-End and Final.  This is being reviewed in class today and assessment is on Thurs. Study Vocabulary.

Adjective assessment on Wed.  Students worked on adjective lesson last week, played an adjective game called “Dogs, Dogs, Dogs, ” and review daily in D.O.L.  This is an in-class lesson and students will not be required to study at home for this.

Spelling Unit 7

p. 29 (1-14),p. 30(1-14), and p. 31(1-5)    10 word story all due on Friday.

NO D.O.L. THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!

Book orders are due by tomorrow – Last Day!!

Book Orders

October book orders will be passed out today and tomorrow. They are due Tuesday, 10/14.

October books must be shown to L.A. teachers by Thursday.

Spelling Review Unit 6

Page 24(1-20),Page 25 (1-10 and 1-4(dictionary skills), and 10 word 1 Page story.

D.O.L. Mon, Tues, and Wed. nights.

 

Tuck Reading Assessment on Chapters 14-19.  Study all ten vocabulary words.  We reviewed in class today and will take the assessment Tuesday in class.

MAke sure you have a new S.SR. book for October.
