Iduna Quiz
We reread Iduna and the Magic Apples in class today. As we read to the class we clarified the story and answered questions that the class had. This is their second reading of the myth. We will review and quiz tomorrow. Unit 22 in spelling was assigned and is due on Friday.

We had our spelling test for unit 21 today. We read Iduna and the Magic Apples. We will revisit this when we get back from vacation. Please give all writing contest enteries to your LA teachers and we will submit them for you.
Arachne
Today we read Arachne, our first myth. Our mythology unit will last for two weeks. We will review Arachne tomorrow and take a quiz in class Wednesday.
Writing Contest/Short Story
Anthology of Short Stories by Young Americans is looking for contest submissions. The deadline is March 14, 2007, and students will receive 15 bonus points for entering. Information can be found at

Unit 21 Spelling
Unit 21 of spelling was assigned. Pages 89 and 90 and 1-5 on page 91. As always, a 10 word one-page story is required. The students began book project presentations. Tuesday we look to begin our unit on mythology.
The Beacon
Today the class read the school paper, The Beacon. We looked at how to read a newspaper, what it is used for, and different sections contained within the paper itself. Many of the children are in the paper. Take a look for pictures and articles they may have written.
The class did a nice job with the daily oral language today. We looked at all the parts of speech and made corrections to sentences. We will be working on prepositions shortly.

Mrs. Kalisz Returns
Hello Everyone,
I have missed all the students and am excited to be back. I can’t say that I am well-rested, but I have had time to reflect on the year and plan with Mr. Walton. Thank you all for the thoughtful cards and baby gifts; they brightened my day.
Spelling Unit 20/ Reading
Unit 20 work- Complete pages 85 and 86 all/ 1-4 on page 87. 10 word on page story.
Class read the All-American Slurp. We will have a reading quiz/vocabulary on Tuesday.
